LOVEing Pinterest

I admit to being a Pintrestaholic. I have several boards and I pin things all the time. I will say that generally, that is where it ends...pinned. Stuck on a virtual board FOREVER. I saw this on Pintrest and thought is was darling.

I happened to have a blank canvas hanging on the wall in the playroom/my closet/ storage room and I had red paint. I traced and painted the letters in about twenty minutes. I determined I needed a small 50 light strand for this and ran to the craft store to find one. I found a 30 string and figured it would be enough.

Next, I took an exacto knife and punched a little hole in the canvas. The lights easily punched threw. I completed the L and half of the O and realized 30 lights would not be enough. I took a 100 light strand from my one of my Christmas boxes. This was too many, but I went with it anyway.

Obviously, my creation has more lights than the prototype.

I dare not show a picture of what the back looks like. It is UGLY. If I make another one of these I will use a brand new strand of lights simply because it will be neater. I know I have one somewhere....just can't find it right now.

This was an easy project and makes a big statement on our mantle. I am excited to try this technique using other words. I am kicking myself for not buying more strands of lights after Christmas. DARN IT.

Restoration Hardware Copy

I admit to jumping on the current trophy/urn bandwagon. Actually, if you want to know the truth I was on this train a long time ago. I bought a 16" trophy vase from Pottery Barn eleven plus years ago. I don't remember how much I paid for it, but it wasn't much because back then $20 was my mad money for the month.

Last summer my husband ran across three trophies at Goodwill that had real marble bases. The trophies themselves were a horrible cheap faux brass, but they had great shape. Here is a picture:

The lamp also has a marble base and is getting ready for some spray paint as well.

I taped up the base and sprayed away with a brushed nickel.

Here she is with some of her sisters. The hammered one to the right is the Pottery Barn trophy that started it all.

Tonight I went to a lecture by interior designer Garrison Hullinger (spelling the name right?) at Restoration Hardware. I LOVE their catalog and store, but can hardly afford to step inside. They had catered food and free wine and beer so the night was fantastic. We also were able to shop while the store was closed and were give 20% off our purchases. I picked up a few things, but mainly oohhed and ahhhed over their decor. I was so excited when I saw a table full of urns that looked just like mine, but smaller. I picked one up and flipped it over to look at the price. I nearly choked on my beer. $54. Faux marble base, same cheap metal, but $50 more than I paid for mine. Wow.

*P.S. I want to make this table too. Looks like recylced fence boards and barn wood. They want $2,900 for it.
